Truex Jr Looks to Defend Dover Playoff Win

Going into the final race of the first round of NASCAR’s Playoffs, Martin Truex Jr. has already punched his ticket to the second round. However, that isn’t going to keep Truex Jr. from trying to defend his win in this race a year ago. Dover also happens to be Truex’s home track, and when a driver wins at their home track it’s a big deal.

Truex, who happens to lead the series in playoff points at 59, would also love to add to that total. If Truex can dominate the race by winning both stages and get the race win he can bring that total up to 65. This is something that isn’t all that unlikely either. Truex’s first career win came at Dover in 2007. In 23 career starts at the track, he has two wins, three top fives, twelve top tens, and an average finish of 13.7. In June Truex led 102 laps in route to a third-place finish.

So heading into Dover, it will be interesting to see if Truex can keep up his 2017 dominance. Truex Jr. leads the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series in practically every stat. Including wins (5), top 10s (19), stage wins (19), and average finish (10.5). He has also led an astounding 25.4% of all laps led this season. So on Sunday afternoon, it won’t be surprising if Truex can add onto his already impressive stats.

The Apache Warrior 400 will be live from Dover International Speedway on Sunday. Coverage can be found on NBCSN, MRN, and SiriusXM NASCAR Radio starting at 1 PM EST.
