Alex Bowman lands 2 races in the NXS.

Chip Ganassi Racing announced earlier today that Alex Bowman will pilot the #42 in two upcoming XFINITY races.  The 24-year-old Hendrick Motorsports driver will race the car at Charlotte Motor Speedway and Phoenix Raceway.  Chip Ganassi Racing stated that Larson was originally signed up for these races, but they want him to focus on the cup playoffs. will serve as the primary sponsor of the car.

“We’re excited to welcome Alex to the No. 42 team for two races. He’s a great young talent, who can help us with our goal of winning an NXS owners’ championship,” team owner Chip Ganassi said. “Initially those two races were earmarked for Larson but we wanted him to focus on the playoffs.  We appreciate Rick and his team for allowing us to put Alex in our car. Hendrick Motorsports has been a tremendous partner of CGR for many years.”

Bowman’s XFINTY Success

Alex Bowman made his XFINITY Series debut in 2012.  Since then, he’s made 50 starts, recorded five top-fives, 13 top-tens, and three poles.

Bowman will be the fourth driver to pilot the #42 this season.  Other drivers include last weeks winner, Tyler Reddick, Kyle Larson, and Justin Marks.  The #42 is currently leading the owners’ championship points and is looking to capture that title in November.

Bowman is Ready for Battle

Though CGR hopes to use Alex to help in their efforts to win the owners’ championship, his goal is to get ready for 2018.  Bowman will fill the seat of the #88 Hendrick Motorsports Chevy beginning next season replacing the retiring Dale Earnhardt, Jr.  He first drove for HMS when filling in for Earnhardt during his concussion last season.  In that time he led laps, sat on the pole, and had a career-best finish of 6th.

“This is a terrific opportunity for Alex to get back into a competitive environment and work with a championship-caliber team,” HMS owner Rick Hendrick added. “I think he’ll pick up right where he left off. It’s also a valuable platform for us to promote in our home market. Chip is a great friend, and we’re looking forward to working with his team on and off the track.”
