Ryan Truex Joins Kaulig Racing

Tuesday morning it was announced that 2 time K&N Pro Series East Champion Ryan Truex would drive the #11 for Kaulig Racing in 2018. The announcement comes just a week after Hattori Racing Enterprises announced Ryan’s departure from the team. As we head into the new NASCAR season, Ryan can’t be more excited to get things going.

“I’m honestly glad it’s done and we can focus on going out and performing and doing our jobs,” Truex told SiriusXM NASCAR Radio.

With Truex coming in, that leaves one driver exiting the #11. Blake Koch, a friend of team owner Matt Kaulig, said there was no hard feelings toward the team. He expressed the fact that this was all business and sponsor related, and nothing personal.

The teams current primary sponsor, LeafFilter Gutter Protection, owned by Matt Kaulig, won’t fund as many races in 2018. That left Blake Koch with no main sponsor, forcing the team to look for another driver. The team then found Truex, who had a primary sponsor ready to go with Bar Harbor Sea Food.

With Koch still searching for a sponsor, the team hasn’t chosen to abandon him. Matt Kaulig made it clear that he would love to put Koch into a second car, if sponsorship aligned. The car most likely would not be run until after the season opener at Daytona.

Ryan Truex’s Previous Stats

Though Truex won’t be racing with competitive team Hattori Racing Enterprises again, his stats aren’t to blame. In just his first full time season in NASCAR’s Camping World Truck Series, Truex was able to finish 9th in the standings.  He claimed 8 top fives, 13 top tens, and two poles. Not to mention, he led 115 laps total, with an average finish of 11.4.

Truex has also shown talent in the XFINITY Series. In 2012 he was able to claim a pole at Dover for Joe Gibbs Racing, and would go on to finish second. Overall he has been able to claim 9 career top tens in the series.

No doubt Truex has shown himself to be talented and well experienced. Maybe some day soon he will be racing door to door with older brother Martin.  But seriously, who doesn’t want to see a Truex brother showdown?
