Kevin Durant: The Journey To The Finals

Kevin Durant finished game one of the NBA finals with 38 points, 8 rebounds, and 8 assists. The Golden State Warriors defeated the Cleveland Cavaliers 113 to 91, giving them a 1-0 series lead.

The Odds:

The basketball world picked the Warriors to win this year’s finals. Los Vegas gave the Cavaliers a 7 percent chance of winning this series. Is the pressure on LeBron or the Golden State Warriors? If you selected either of those answers you may be wrong.

The Reasons of KD!

Let’s be clear the pressure of this series falls on Durant for several reasons. Remember when KD decided to sign with Golden State in the off-season after losing to them in last year’s Western Conference finals?

The former Texas Long Horn missed several key buckets along with Westbrook to close out the series. In 2015-2016 the Oklahoma City Thunder had multiple chances to advance to the NBA Finals.

Durant had a great tandem with Russell Westbrook; however, he felt that the team aspect of basketball was missing. Can you really blame KD for leaving OKC to chase something greater?

After a whole NBA year, the level of competition has diminished due to super teams and lack of player development in the NBA draft.

With that being said the Prince Georges County native has to dominate this series and win his first ring. If the 6’9 small forward does not win the pressure is on. A loss would hurt his legacy, considering that he went to a former champion in the GSW.

Think About it:

Although the Warriors traded or released a majority of their bench to acquire KD, the team’s nucleus remained intact. If you find yourself asking, well didn’t LeBron leave Cleveland to go to Miami, consider the following:

  • LeBron went to the finals with a roster people don’t remember
  • LeBron asked Cleveland’s management to add help
  • LeBron’s owner has an ego
  • LeBron didn’t have Westbrook, Serge Ibaka, or James Harden
  • Daniel Gibson was James Batman (No disrespect to Gibson)

In order to avoid the asterisk over his first ring KD needs to win the finals and finals MVP. Durant has to be the reason why Golden State brings home the trophy.

Will Kevin Durant capture his first ring?

Game 2 this Sunday at 8pm on ABC!
