Western Conference Finals Game 2:

The Western Conference Finals have begun, break out the boxing gloves for San Antonio Spurs Head Coach Greg Popovich and Golden State Warriors forward Zaza Pachulia.

After Golden States game one victory over the Spurs Sunday afternoon, forward Kawhi Leonard was scheduled for an MRI on Monday. Coach Popovich ruled Leonard out Monday before the MRI results were announced.

Later the 68-year-old coach would blast Pachulia.

Pachulia Dirty?

“All I care about is Kawhi’s not there,” Popovich said. “You know, having your horses is important at this point in the deal… Who gives a damn about what [Pachulia’s] intent was? You ever hear of manslaughter? You still go to jail, I think when you’re texting and you end up killing somebody, but you might not have intended to do that. All I care about is what I saw. All I care about is what happened and the history there exacerbates the whole situation and makes me very, very angry,” Popovich said.

Make no mistake if Leonard did not get injured during game one of the Western Conference Finals, the Spurs would probably lead the series 1-0. With the Spurs losing their star player it seems like the Warriors may be advancing to their third straight NBA finals.

However, coaching may become an advantage for San Antonio. The Spurs defeated the Houston Rockets in game six without Leonard in order to advance to the Western Conference Finals. As long as Popovich is coaching in Texas, San Antonio still has a chance to win.

Return of the Champion:

An ankle injury normally takes 2-3 weeks to heal, but with today’s modern medicine anything can happen. If you are the Spurs you should use game two as a trial and error to test new line-ups, rotations and defensive schemes.

Game two will help build experience for Kyle Anderson and Dejounte Murray, who played well in game one. Both players played significant minutes and contributed considering the amount of experience they have in the playoffs.

San Antonio shouldn’t throw in the towel considering the fact that they are on the road first which gives Leonard more time to rest his ankle. If and when Leonard comes back he will not be 100%, but it will be better than nothing. Save Leonard for the two games in Texas!

Game two expect the Spurs to come out relaxed, assertive and confident. Also except high pick & roll action with LaMarcus Aldridge.  In addition to the offensive adjustments look for Popovich to address the defensive rotations and match-ups.
