Damian Lillard Is Top Five

Damian Lillard aka “Dame D.O.L.L.A” has continued to put up impressive numbers while leading the Portland Trail Blazers to a 39-26 record. Portland is currently holding on to the three seed in the Western Conference. That’s right the same Portland team who found themselves at the tail end of the Western Conference the past three seasons. With the help of CJ McCollum who is averaging 21.6 points per game, it seems like the Blazers have hit their stride in the second half of the season.

Lillard’s Consistent Offense Is Nothing New

Lillard has made three All-Star appearances since he was drafted in 2012. But the Oakland native often times feels disrespected around the league. The 27-year-old guard is one of the most underrated superstars in the league. Yes Lillard is a superstar in the NBA. Think about it in the month of January Lillard has scored more points per game than Stephen Curry, Kevin Durant and LeBron James, per ESPN. Yes, he may have the ball in his hands more than Curry and Durant, but he has always been a consistent scorer. In the month of January Lillard shot a higher field goal percentage than Chris Paul and James Harden.

In addition to field goal percentage, the Portland guard made more field goals than Harden, Durant and Curry. Also, in the month of January, the 3-time All-Star made more 3-pointers than Klay Thompson and Harden.

Portlands Season Recap

This season Portland has pulled off impressive wins against the Golden State Warriors, Oklahoma City Thunder and San Antonio Spurs. Lillard has ascended into a superstar over the past two years and it’s time he gets his respect. In 2014 the 6-foot-3 guard made the All-NBA Third team. Two years later the former Weber State guard made the All-NBA Second Team. (2016). Why doesn’t the Oakland native get the respect that he deserves? Is it because of the small market in Portland? The 5-year veteran has averaged more than 18 points per game each season since being drafted in 2012. At the end of the 2014-15 season, Lillard averaged 21 points per game, The former Weber State guard has been playing lights out no matter who is on the floor. Dame D.O.L.L.A has continued to display his ability to shoot from deep, slash to the rim and lead by example.

Lillard equals Instant Offense

Currently, the 2018 all-star is averaging 26.8 points per game which is sixth in the league. The only players who average more points are James Harden, Anthony Davis, Giannis Antetokounmpo, LeBron James and Stephen Curry. During the 2016-17 season, Dame D.O.L.L.A finished in sixth place averaging 27 points per game.  The 27-year-old has continued to prove that he belongs in the conversation of MVP. Dame D.O.L.L.A has been consistent over the past three years and it’s time to put some respect on his name. (Insert Birdman voice)
