The Eagles Last Preseason Game Ends With A Loss To The Jets

The NFL preseason is finally over. The Philadelphia Eagles completed their preseason tourney on Thursday night with a 16-10 loss to the New York Jets. They finish the preseason with a 2-2 record and will face the Washington Redskins next week at FedEx Field in the first week of regular season. The Eagles last preseason game didn’t feature most of the starters because injuries are not fun. Players that are fighting for a spot on the team got a chance to make an impression.

Donnell Pumphrey’s Spot Is In Real Danger

Philly has to be considering cutting running back Donnell Pumphrey after another disappointing performance. He’s yet to prove he deserves to be on the Eagles’ final 53-man roster. The other running backs have outplayed him in the preseason. As a result, he could be forced to continue his NFL career somewhere else. It’s hard seeing him as an Eagles player after Saturday afternoon.

Corey Clement Deserves A Spot On The Team

Let’s talk about a player that has earned a spot on the team. Clement has made his case this preseason and it wouldn’t be a surprise to see him make the final cut. Clement scored two rushing touchdowns in the preseason and can serve as an alternative back to the team. The real question is, can the Eagles keep him? The Eagles are likely to keep at least three of their running backs and that would make Clement the fourth running back on the roster. In my opinion, Clement stays on the team.

The Team Need To Take Marcus Johnson or Bryce Treggs Over Shelton Gibson

I honestly gave wide receiver Shelton Gibson a chance. He caught four receptions for 40 receiving yards against the Jets but failed to have any impact in the game. The wide receiver has struggled to make an impact even in training camp. Jeff McLane of the Philadelphia Inquirer believes Gibson has a good shot at making the training squad. It’s a shame that Gibson won’t be on the roster after being drafted in the fifth round of the NFL draft.

Defensive Tackle Elijah Qualls Has Been Overlooked

Philadelphia’s last preseason game against the Jets saw defensive tackle Elijah Qualls finish with five solo tackles and half a sack. The sixth-round talent has quietly had a productive preseason and has put up encouraging numbers via Pro Football Focus. The Eagles don’t lack talent when it comes to the defensive line. They have to decide quickly what to do with Qualls because time is running out. I personally hope the Eagles keep the former Washington Husky as a rotation player for the regular season. The team needs all the help they can get.

In Case You Missed It, The Eagles And Jets Exchanged Cornerbacks This Week

Philly sent cornerback Terrence Brooks to the Jets in exchange for cornerback Dexter McDougle. McDougle played in the Eagles last preseason game, but it’s still too early to tell if the exchange was good for either team. Philadelphia is likely to give McDougle a spot on the final roster and they can only hope he can bring something to the defense that they believe they lacked before the trade.
