Iggles Can Earn Elite Status With Win At Charlotte

The Time To Claim Elite Status For The Iggles Is Now

It has been a very short week for the team. Following a dominant Week 5 win against the Arizona Cardinals, the Philadelphia Eagles are expected to be ready to face a competitive Carolina Panthers team that also possesses a 4-1 record. Carolina has collected some impressive wins this season and will be looking to add Philadelphia to that resume.  On the other hand, Philadelphia is looking to earn elite status by taking down the Panthers on their home turf, and it is not far-fetched to say they have a decent chance. However, the Eagles need these specific players to contribute for the team to triumph at Charlotte on Thursday night.

The Team Will Need LeGarrette Blount’s Bruising Runs

First and foremost, teams on the road can struggle to win games without an efficient running game. Running back LeGarrette Blount’s bruising runs can make things complicated for Carolina’s defense. The Panthers defense is currently leading the NFL in sacks, and the Eagles will be without offensive tackle Lane Johnson due to a concussion suffered in the Arizona game. Blount’s bruising style of running will help open up the Eagles passing game. He should aim to pound the ball and wear out the Carolina defense so that quarterback Carson Wentz can do his thing.

Patrick Robinson And Jalen Mills Cannot Afford To Slip Up

The cornerback duo both produced great performances against Arizona. In Week 6, they will need to replicate those performances against quarterback Cam Newton and his receivers. Newton shredded the last two defenses he has faced, and he is looking to continue his hot streak against the Eagles defense. Both Robinson and Mills have to do their best to take away the aerial attack from the Panthers and pressure Newton to make plays with his feet. Pressuring Newton into making those types of plays can cause him to force plays and make mistakes.

This Game Could Be Alshon Jeffery’s Breakout Game

Wide receiver Alshon Jeffery has not had a signature game this season. His best game was against the Kansas City Chiefs where he snagged seven catches for 92 receiving yards and a touchdown. Jeffery is due for a breakout game, and he knows it. Can this be that game? It could be. Philadelphia needs their best receiver to step up so he can help them obtain elite status around the league. Meanwhile, wide receiver Nelson Agholor has become the Eagles best receiver, and I do not know if that is a good thing or a bad thing.

Be Afraid, Carolina, Timmy Jernigan Is Coming

After missing two games, defensive tackle Fletcher Cox is questionable to return against Carolina. Philadelphia can get a big boost with the return of Cox.  The Eagles defensive line has proven that without Cox, they can still be a productive unit. Jernigan has tried his best to mimic Cox’s impact on the field. He is a player that can influence games and can help the Philly defense pressure Newton and disrupt his rhythm. Newton is a different type of quarterback because of his mobility. Jernigan could prove to be the difference maker on Thursday night.

Carson Wentz Has To Be Carson Wentz

It seems like Carson Wentz is now expected to produce every week at a high level as the elite quarterbacks do. Wentz has to play another big game to help guide his team to a fourth consecutive victory in Week 6. Wentz is not playing like a sophomore quarterback and can’t play like one against Carolina’s defense. The Panthers defense will be looking to rough up Wentz in this game. On defense, Carolina has playmakers like middle linebacker Luke Kuechly and linebacker Thomas Davis that can produce critical plays any second. It is a primetime game, and Wentz can help the Eagles solidify their elite status with a victory over Carolina.

The Team That Wins Will Take A Big Step Forward

The winning team will leave with bragging rights and make their case for a playoff spot and more. Who will win the game? It is a tough one. The Panthers have managed to capture impressive victories against the New England Patriots and the Detroit Lions by playing some great football. At the same time, the Eagles present a different type of challenge to the Panthers. For instance, Philadelphia can find different ways to win games, and they displayed that against Arizona. They demonstrated that, despite all of their injuries and setbacks, they could win games. Therefore, Philly should win a tough game against Carolina 30-27.
