Philadelphia’s Offensive Weapons Need To Produce

Week one of the 2017 NFL regular season has arrived. The Philadelphia Eagles will take on the Washington Redskins at FedEx Field for a tough divisional battle. Philly has lost five straight games to the Redskins and will be looking to snap that humiliating losing streak. However, in order for the Eagles to be victorious on Sunday, they will need all the help they can get on offense and defense. Especially on offense. Their offensive weapons will play the biggest role because of the fact that the game has the potential to be a shootout. In my opinion, the following players will need to step up on Sunday to help Philadelphia start their season with a win.

Quarterback Carson Wentz

This is the moment that all Eagles fans have been waiting for. Quarterback Carson Wentz finally has the offensive weapons to produce big numbers. There’s no doubt that this year’s offense is much better than last year’s. That is because the team acquired wide receiver Alshon Jeffery, running back LeGarrette Blount, and wide receiver Torrey Smith in the offseason. He will have to outshine Redskins quarterback Kirk Cousins, who loves playing against the Eagles.

Wide Receiver Alshon Jeffery

It’s only his first year with the Eagles, but that doesn’t matter. Wide receiver Alshon Jeffery was brought in to be the team’s number one receiver. His presence on the field will help his fellow receivers because of Jeffery’s reputation as a deep ball threat. Eagles fans will be in ecstasy if they witness Jeffery grab a score against Washington.

Running Back LeGarrette Blount Has To Wear Out The Washington Defense

It doesn’t matter who’s running the ball for the Eagles. The running game has to be efficient for the offense to get on track. All the pressure is on Wentz to produce, but he will need the running game to be moving. Certainly, Blount will be the primary ball carrier and coach Doug Pederson will likely rotate all of the running backs, depending on how the game is progressing. Coach Pederson will need a well-balanced attack to make sure his offense runs like a well-oiled machine. If the running game struggles, then expect the offense to struggle as well. It’s that simple.

We Missed You, Lane Johnson

The offensive line is more than glad to have offensive tackle Lane Johnson back. His return completes the number one ranked offensive line, via Pro Football Focus. He was greatly missed last year in the two games against Washington. Johnson is the X-factor for the Eagles because he can ensure that Wentz has enough time to throw the ball or make the right decision when needed.

This is a tough prediction. It will be a game full of touchdowns and heart-dropping moments that will have Philadelphia and Washington fans on the edge of their seats. Either team can come out victorious, but the reality is only one will leave FedEx Field with a win. It will be the Eagles. Philadelphia has improved their team and will be motivated to end Washington’s winning streak. My prediction is a final score of 28-24, in favor of the Eagles.
