A Ronald Darby Interception Sparks Eagles Victory Against His Former Team

Last night was the first preseason game at home for Philadelphia. The Eagles took on the Buffalo Bills at the Lincoln Financial Field. It was also the first home game for the rookies and for the team’s recent acquisitions. Undoubtedly, all eyes were on cornerback Ronald Darby after the Eagles traded wide receiver Jordan Matthews to the Bills for Darby’s services. The former Buffalo Bill didn’t disappoint. A Ronald Darby interception came in the first quarter when Darby intercepted his former quarterback Tyrod Taylor and ran it back for 48 yards. The coaching staff had to like what they saw out of Darby and their defense in this game.

The Darby Trade Looks Good So Far

The guy had a dream preseason debut. Darby did have an “oh no!” moment against Bills’ running back LeSean McCoy. Darby had a chance to tackle McCoy but failed miserably. McCoy made him look silly and won the battle. But a Ronald Darby interception was looming and Darby would end up winning the war. It felt like Darby couldn’t wait to get back at his former team and teammate. Darby made a couple of plays after the McCoy encounter and eventually got an interception against his former team. Darby’s night started off rough but he bounced back and showed that the Eagles might have made the right decision.

Kendricks intercepted And Sacked Tyrod Taylor

A player that’s involved in trade talks. What about a player that lost his role with the team? That’s what some are saying about outside linebacker Mychal Kendricks. Kendrick’ performance from last night tells us one thing. He’s trying to show his future team what he can offer if they trade for him. The linebacker intercepted a pass from Taylor and also sacked him. This is his 2nd good performance in a row for the Eagles. Eagles could trade him any second now.

Eagles Fans Finally Got To See The Wentz-Jeffery Connection

Wide receiver Alshon Jeffery finally suited up for the Eagles. Quarterback Carson Wentz couldn’t wait to see his new favorite target at the Linc for the first time. Wentz and the offense struggled to get things going early in the first quarter. The offense managed to pick it up and Jeffery caught two receptions for 23 yards. The offense didn’t have their best night but it was a good sight for Eagles fans to see Jeffery on the field and see him catch some balls from Wentz. Jeffery looks like he’s ready to go.

Are The Eagles Not Using Blount Correctly?

However, not everything about the offense went well. The Eagles running game continues to be a cause for concern. Blount fumbled the ball away against the Bills in only five carries. Blount did show some life when he caught a pass from Wentz in which he managed to show what he can bring to Philadelphia. He broke some tackles and got some good yards. Blount is not known for catching passes. He’s a bruising back that’s supposed to punish defenders and force two or three defenders to bring him down. The Eagles brought him in to bolster the running game and so far, he hasn’t done that.

Cox And Barnett Are Looking Good

The defensive line continues to improve. According to Pro Football Focus, Defensive tackle Fletcher Cox pressured the quarterback three times in only nine pass rush snaps. Rookie defensive end Derek Barnett got another sack, which makes it his 2nd preseason game in a row with a sack. The defensive line will have to do plenty of heavy lifting this upcoming season to help the defense against the elite teams. Even with Ronald Darby on the team, the defense could have a hard time against top quarterbacks like Cam Newton and Russell Wilson. The defensive line will make or break the defense this season.

It’s Still Preseason, No Worries

But we should consider it’s only preseason. Last night’s game against the Bills showed more good than bad for the Eagles. The Ronald Darby interception was without a doubt the best highlight of the game. The team needs to focus on getting better and getting Wentz more reps with the receivers. The offense is supposed to be the best part of this team and they didn’t look sharp against the Bills. Expect the offense to continue to get better and the defense to focus on who they need or don’t need. Yeah, my eye is on you, Mychal.
