Philly Uses Stingy Defense To Smother San Fran

It took the Philadelphia Eagles (7-1) six offensive drives to score their first touchdown against the San Francisco 49ers (0-8). Philly’s first touchdown of the game came on a one-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Carson Wentz to his wide-open tight end; Zach Ertz; in the end zone. An unusual night for the offense but a stingy defense helped steer the Eagles to a 33-10 victory. Philadelphia is on a six-game winning streak after defeating San Francisco on a rainy afternoon.

The Green Goblin Snags The First Pick-Six Of His Career

Eagles sophomore cornerback Jalen Mills; a.k.a. The Green Goblin; has been a pleasant surprise for Philly fans this season. After being drafted by the Eagles in the seventh round of last year’s NFL Draft, he showed promise during the season. After eight games, Mills has three interceptions and scored his first career touchdown on a pick-six against the 49ers.

An Eagles Stingy Defense Elevates Shaky Wentz

Although the Eagles won, it is hard not to acknowledge that Carson Wentz didn’t have the best of games. Wentz produced his second-lowest passer rating game of the season against the 49ers. The positive side is that the team did not need Wentz to be superhuman to win this game, thanks to their stingy defense. Their defense sacked 49ers rookie quarterback C.J. Beathard four times and intercepted him twice. It is good to know the defense can pick up the slack when the offense struggles to get it going.

Alshon Jeffery Snatches His First Touchdown Since Week 4

Some Eagles fans feel like Alshon Jeffery could be doing more for the offense. Apparently, the criticism started because the wide receiver has not been putting up eye-popping numbers so far this season. Jeffery caught his third touchdown as an Eagle against San Francisco and should see more in the second half of the season.

Eagles Defensive Line Make Their Presences Felt

Against the 49ers, defensive end Brandon Graham and defensive tackle Fletcher Cox proved to be special. They created havoc against the 49ers offensive line and made it nearly impossible for San Fran’s offense to make anything happen. Both players got a sack along with defensive end Vinny Curry adding one of his own. Rookie defensive end Derek Barnett didn’t get a sack in this game, but he blocked 49ers kicker Robbie Gould’s field goal attempt near the end of the second quarter.

The NFC East Division Race Has Just Begun

Being 7-1 is a sweet feeling for the city of Philadelphia. It has been a while since they have seen this type of consistent success from their football team. I hate to be the one that brings you back to earth, but this division race is not over yet. The Dallas Cowboys (4-3) are in second place, and Philadelphia still has to play them twice this season. Both teams have talented quarterbacks, and the division might come down to Philly’s stingy defense making plays when it matters.
