Birds Could Claim NFC East Division Crown

Monday Night Football is promised to be a spectacle for football fans. The Philadelphia Eagles have their eye on completing a season sweep against the Washington Redskins on their home turf. A win against Washington would give Philly a 3-0 record against NFC East teams and a tight grip on the division crown. Washington has been inconsistent this season and injuries to their secondary haven’t helped either. On the other hand, the Eagles are going into this game in superb shape concerning injuries and momentum. For the Eagles to secure a win, they have to continue to do what they do best.

Pound The Rock With Blount And Pound It Some More

The Eagles are getting a significant boost with the return of running back Wendell Smallwood. Philadelphia has to show the Redskins that they will stick with the running game no matter what. The running game will open up things for quarterback Carson Wentz and the offense. Also, Washington will be without Pro Bowl cornerback Josh Norman, which is excellent news for Philadelphia’s receivers. Norman’s absence is something the Eagles will undoubtedly try to exploit in their Monday Night Football matchup.

The Eagles Defense Have To Pressure Cousins To Turn The Ball Over

Philadelphia’s defense is top-five in takeaways this season. As a matter of fact, they displayed it over the Carolina Panthers by intercepting quarterback Cam Newton thrice. The interceptions were vital in the Eagles victory over the Panthers, and the defense will have to do the same against Redskins quarterback Kirk Cousins. In Week 1, it was the defense that sealed the game for the Eagles when defensive tackle Fletcher Cox scooped up a fumble late in the fourth quarter and returned it for a touchdown. Ultimately, the Eagles have to win the turnover battle, and that is something they have excelled at this season.

Wentz Needs Protection At All Costs

Quarterback Carson Wentz has taken too many hits this season. He is known around the league for his ability to extend plays. However, the Eagles offensive line has to focus on diminishing the pressure on Wentz for this game. The return of offensive tackle Lane Johnson is an enormous boost for the Eagles offense. Furthermore, protecting Wentz means he can do what he does best, and that is dominating time of possession and converting third-downs.

This matchup is huge for both teams. Philadelphia cannot afford to lose this chance to put their feet on Washington’s throat, and I believe they will not miss this opportunity at home. Otherwise, a victory for the Redskins puts them back in contention for the division crown and that will be an immense blow to the Eagles. Washington would improve their record to 4-2 and Philadelphia would drop to 5-2, that means they will have almost similar records. My prediction is that the Eagles will beat the Redskins 27-14, and Wentz will have another fabulous game as he did against the Panthers on Thursday Night Football.
