Sputtering Offense Costs Packers In Shutout

Lambeau Field welcomed the Baltimore Ravens into Green Bay for a Week 11 matchup one team inevitably dominated. Following their first win in 4 weeks, Packers fans were witness to a 23-0 shutout at home to one of the leagues best defenses. The sputtering offense struggled to gain any traction, turning the ball over five times to the vaunted Ravens defense. However, on the other side of the ball, the Packers defense impressed throughout the game.

Offensive Woes

Brett Hundley led the Packers down on the opening drive, looking like a true student of Aaron Rodgers. However, the drive would end with a different vibe as Hundley would be picked off in the end zone. This would, unfortunately, be as close as the Packers would get to scoring on the day.

The following two drives would end similarly. Hundley would throw back to back interceptions, followed by a Devante Mays fumble. The Aaron Rodgers back up would struggle with pressure all day as well. Altogether he was sacked six times on the day, twice by Terrell Suggs, Matthew Judon, and Willie Henry. In the fourth quarter, Hundley would turn the ball over twice, down just two scores. He will need to combat these issues in decision making if the Packers have any hope to salvage the season.

Using a running game against the Ravens was not much of an option for the Packers. After injuries kept both Aaron Jones and Ty Montgomery out of the Week 11 matchup, Jamaal Williams got the start. Unfortunately, he did not do much with his opportunity. Moreover, he posted just 57 yards on 18 carries and did not take a carry more than 8 yards on the day.

While the Packers faced difficulties on offense, there was a bright spot. Wide receiver Davante Adams made the most of his opportunity in the sputtering offense. Impressively, Adams caught eight of his ten targets for 126 yards. Look for his connection with Hundley to continue to develop as the season wears on.

Defense Keeps Pack In Game

The Packers defense was put into precarious positions throughout the game. After the offense turned the ball over in their first three possessions, they held the Ravens to just 3 points. Sadly, the poor field position would eventually weigh down the defense.

Though the Packers defense allowed 23 points on the day, they held the Ravens down in spectacular fashion. Clay Matthews, Dean Lowry, and Kyler Fackrell all had a sack on Flacco. The defense combined for 8.5 tackles for a loss on the day according to ESPN. Ha Ha Clinton-Dix added an interception and almost had two, had he come down with an errant pass.

Although Flacco’s Ravens had the last laugh, the defense of the Packers did not make it easy. Through the air, the Ravens had just 161 yards. Green Bay limited them to only 58 yards on 26 carries on the ground.

Green Bay’s defense will look to build on this showing going forward. On the other side, the offense will look to move past this ugly showing.
