Vikings Sign Receiver Brandon Zylstra To Futures Contract

The Vikings have signed wide receiver Brandon Zylstra to a futures contract. He will come aboard at the end of the 2017 season. Whether or not he lands a roster spot will be dependant upon his performance in training camp this offseason.

Zylstra will be joining the Vikings from the Edmonton Eskimos; members of the Canadian Football League; where he posted a CFL leading 1,687 yards on 100 receptions and five touchdowns last season. Initially, Brandon played college football for Concordia-Moorhead where he recorded 1,932 receiving yards and 18 touchdowns in 29 games.

Hailing from Spicer, Minnesota, Brandon Zylstra becomes the fourth Minnesota native on the Vikings. He joins Marcus Sherels (Rochester), Adam Thielen (Detroit Lakes), and Michael Floyd (Saint Paul).

The six-foot-two, 215-pound wide receiver brings a mix of size and speed that could help Minnesota’s already stellar receiving corps.

Viking Wide Receivers

Zylstra joins a very deep Minnesota Vikings wide receiver unit that consists of players like Stefon Diggs, Adam Thielen, and Jarius Wright. However, he will be competing mostly with the deeper receivers on the depth chart.

Some of the deeper guys on the Vikings depth chart include Michael Floyd, Laquon Treadwell, and Stacy Coley. If Brandon Zylstra makes the team, this is the area in which he will find himself. Last regular season, Treadwell posted 20 catches for 200 yards and zero touchdowns. Michael Floyd finished the season with just ten catches for 78 yards and no touchdowns. Coley did not see the field at all this season.

For Zylstra, this is a fantastic accomplishment. He should enjoy the moment and get ready for the upcoming summer. If he can find his way onto the team, it will become one of the better feel-good stories of the year. Hopefully, Zylstra can become a productive player for the Vikings in the future.
