The Best Rivalry In Football Continues On Sunday With Major Implications

If you did not know by now, the best rivalry in NFL is in the NFC South. You can argue the Steelers and the Bengals. Maybe even the Eagles and Giants. However, for some years now, the Falcons and Saints have had some major battles. This upcoming game tomorrow might be the most important battle they have had in years. Whoever wins this game will have a lead for the division crown. If the Falcons lose, they will not be able to win the division and would have to beat the Panthers to get in the playoffs. Of course, the Falcons have other ways to sneak in the playoffs if they lose out. Right now, the best way for them to get in is if they handle their business. Here are three players from the Falcons to watch out for in this big division matchup.

Devonta Freeman

The last time these two teams played, Devonta Freeman had himself a game. Tevin Coleman left the game with a concussion, so Freeman took over most of the snaps at the end. The Saints do not have the best run defense, so the Falcons could ride Freeman for most of the game if they want. This could also open up some plays down the field if the Saints try to run defend a lot. Freeman might even play with an extra drive in this game after what coach Sean Payton did to him last game.

I expect Freeman to have himself another good game against the Saints.

Deion Jones

The Saints killer himself, and a NOLA native as well. The last time Jones was in the Superdome, he took an interception for a touchdown. The last time these teams faced off, Jones picked off Drew Brees in the end zone to seal the game. Sounds like a recurring theme, right? Deion Jones is going to have his hands full with Mark Ingram and Alvin Kamara. These two have been great for the Saints this year and can be credited for much of the team’s success. Luckily, Jones has the speed to keep up with most running backs so his job might be easy. If Jones can disrupt the running game of the Saints, the Falcons will be in a good position.

Matt Ryan

If there is anybody that knows how important this game is on the Falcons, it is Matt Ryan. He has had the luxury of being a part of the best rivalry in the league for some years now. Ryan did not have his best game when these two first met weeks ago. You could probably say that was his worst game of the season, and that is a good thing. Matt Ryan does not have many bad games, and if he does, he will most likely bounce back. If he plays well this week, there’s no doubt the Falcons will have a great chance to win in the hostile environment of the Superdome. Hopefully, we see the Matty Ice we all know and love in this pivotal matchup.
