Jalen Collins Suspended First 10 Games Of Season

Jalen Collins has been a major work in progress for the Falcons. Last year he was suspended for the first 4 games of the season for violating the PED policy. When Collins returned, he didn’t the field as much as he wanted. Then Desmond Trufant was injured in the middle of the season. From that day on to the playoffs, Jalen Collins had to step up. He answered the call,  and many people thought that he had a chance to crack the starting spot the following season, even with Trufant returning.

What’s Done In The Dark Will Come To Light

When training camp started, something wasn’t right. Jalen Collins wasn’t getting reps with the first or second team defense. Is he suffering an injury? Did he do something wrong? Nobody knew anything until Dan Quinn and Collins finally spoke on the situation.

“Right now, our first group is Robert Alford and Brian Poole inside at nickel and on the other side is Desmond Trufant. At times, it might feel like Collins is in the second or third group. That’s where he is on the depth chart right now.” -Dan Quinn

“They are trying to get everybody some reps. It doesn’t really matter what team you are with. We are all working the same stuff and trying to get better.” -Jalen Collins

That made sense after how Poole performed last season and Trufant returning. Collins then made it seem like it was just a matter of the coaches getting a look at other players on the team. Well rest assured, that may have not been the case after all.

So we all know why Collins probably hasn’t seen many reps at camp. This is strike two when it comes to Collins violating the PED policy. The next question is what will the team do with him now. Do they value him enough to keep him on the team? As of now, it looks like C.J. Goodwin and Damontae Kazee are making good cases for themselves on the roster which isn’t good for Collins.
