Despite Rainy Day, Falcons Manage To Get In The Win Column

It was a not a pretty day, nor a pretty game for the Falcons. They still managed to come out with a win against the New York Jets. It was evident the rainy day caused problems for both teams during the game. The Falcons were able to look past those mistakes and get a much-needed win. After going on a three-game losing streak, the team needed to regroup and get back into the winning column. It was not a great game, but a win is a win. Here are some observations from Atlanta’s Week 8 matchup.

Defense Wakes Up

After allowing the Patriots to rush for over 100 yards last week, the Falcons clamped down on Sunday. They held the Jets to 43 yards on 22 carries. Ahtyba Rubin and Grady Jarrett made significant impacts in the game against the run. Deion Jones was also impressive getting in the gaps and stopping the run. The defense as a whole came up big when they needed to. Multiple third down stops helped them seal the game, especially on the last drive for the Jets. Their next task will be against Carolina, whose offense is not that lethal. However, they must still contain Cam Newton in the pocket.

Offense Shows Some Positive Signs

It was a struggle for the offense all game. The rainy day caused snap issues for Matt Ryan and Alex Mack throughout the game. Besides the turnovers, the offense looked good. It definitely looked better than it did in previous games. The passing game was efficient, and the run game was effective as well. Ryan looked more comfortable in the pocket throwing to his receivers. The Falcons have to continue this play against the Panthers defense, which is very good. Atlanta was able to pick apart their defense twice last year, so let’s see if they can mimic that this year.

The Game Wasnt As Close As The Score

If the Falcons do not drop passes and the punt return does not come back, it is a different game. The Falcons scored 25 points, but it looks like they could’ve scored about 35-40. Overall, it was a convincing win for the Falcons, and they have to continue this momentum that they have.
