The 4 Worst Plays That Ruined Atlanta’s 2017 Season

I think it’s finally a good time for something like this. Some fans may still be in mourning over how the season ended for the Falcons. It’s safe to say the team had some fantastic plays this season. However, they had some horrible moments at times as well. It is most likely these plays that ruined Atlanta’s chances of winning the game. On the other hand, they may have left the outcome unaltered. Either way, we must address the worst plays of the season for the Falcons. Let’s take a look at four of the worst plays during the 2017 season.

The Jet Sweep Against The Patriots

At this point, we figured out that the Falcons were definitely not the same team from the previous year.

Atlanta was already down 20-0. With the pressure of trying to get points on the board, they went for it on 4th down. Instead of running the ball in with Devonta Freeman or Tevin Coleman, they tried a jet sweep to Taylor Gabriel. If you notice, the play did not get anywhere, and many people were left clueless. Attempting the jet sweep to Gabriel not only showed a lack of execution from the Falcons but that Steve Sarkisian was not a great play caller. No doubt, this is one of the worst plays of the season.

The Dropped Touchdown Pass Against Carolina

For the first time since 2012, Julio Jones dropped a pass in the end zone.

At one point, the Falcons held a 10-0 lead over the Panthers. Be that as it may, they proceeded to fall apart. Julio had already dropped a pass earlier in the game that would have made the score 17-0, but he slowed down on his route. The second time around, his touchdown would have made the score 20-17 in favor of the Panthers. It was 4th down and another perfect play for Julio, but he dropped the ball, and many of the fans were left shocked.

The Butt Fumble Against New Orleans

Matt Ryan had been unlucky all year, but this was the icing on the cake.

We heard of the butt fumble, but the butt interception was something I thought we would never experience. Matt endured the misfortune of his passes being tipped and intercepted numerous times this season. The Falcons were already in bad shape in this game, and many would blame the refs. Matt Ryan made a great pass to Marvin Hall, but he was a little high. As a result, Hall tipped it in the air. You should know what happened after that. That’s right; it landed right on Marshon Lattimore’s butt. Undoubtedly, that was one of the worst plays personally for Matt Ryan this season.

Keanu Neal’s Tipped Pass Against The Eagles

To end the season, Keanu gave us one of the worst plays to happen — with his knee.

When I think of this play, many what-ifs pop in my head. What if Keanu would have intercepted that ball? They could have gone into halftime with the score still 10-6. Alternatively, the Falcons could have scored again to extend their lead. The worst thing happened on that play. Not only did Keanu not intercept the ball, but Eagles wide receiver Torrey Smith caught the ball and got the first down. Philadelphia was then able to kick a field goal and go into halftime only down by one. This one hurts the most for me because it was a playoff game. Keanu, next time you try to catch the ball, make sure you do it with your hand and not your knee.
