Hischier Named Star Of The Week During Debut Season

Nico Hischier came to the United States to further his ice hockey career in the NHL. He is doing just that as he becomes the No. 1 Star of the Week.

Hischier Continues With Solid Rookie Season As Star Of The Week

The New Jersey Devils picked up the 19-year-old Swiss player as the No. 1 pick during the 2017 draft. As his debut season continues on, he racks up more points for his team.

Hischier has appeared in all 59 games during the Devils season, scoring 39 points this season. Out of those 39 points, this rookie scored 13 goals and 26 assists.

With all of these points, it only made sense for him to make it as an NHL Star of the Week. And this week, he happened to be picked as the first star after accumulating points in all four of his appearances this week.

During the Devils’ first game of the week, he recorded a goal and an assist to help beat the Philadelphia Flyers 5-4 in a shootout. He followed this performance by scoring a goal and adding two assists in a Devils victory over the Carolina Hurricanes.

Hischier continued his scoring streak by adding a goal to the next two games, which led to a 4-3 win over the Tampa Bay Lighting and a 3-2 victory over the Hurricanes.

He is the fifth rookie in the franchise to score in four straight games.

Hischier Sits In Rookie Rankings

When it comes to the rookie rankings, Hischier made his way to those charts as well. He currently stands in the top 10 for among rookies in four categories. He is tied for fourth in assists and shots on goal, sixth in points and tied for ninth in goals.

As Hischier continues through the rest of the season, we will see if he continues to shine and hopefully clinch a playoff spot for the Devils.

Along with Hischier, Antti Raanta of the Arizona Coyotes filled in the No. 2 spot with Mark Scheifele of the Winnipeg Jets filling in the No. 3 spot for the NHL Star of the Week.
