Snubbed: Voracek Misses All-Star Roster

As previously stated by writer, Anita Kotowicz (here), the All-Star lineups were released for the National Hockey League on Wednesday. There are many new and many familiar faces for the lines. The talent displayed this year will partake in the classic skills competition and also the various events surrounding the actual game. Despite the wide range of high talent in the rosters this year, there are some very notable snubs on the teams. One of the greatest omissions is Jakub Voracek

Player Bio

Voracek has had a long and successful career in the NHL. After being drafted seventh overall in the 2007 draft by the Columbus Blue Jackets, the Czech native was bound for the NHL. He spent only a year in the minor system for the Blue Jackets before being called up. Ever since then, he has experienced success in every season he has played. Columbus was his home for the first three seasons of his career. He was then traded to the Philadelphia Flyers and Voracek stepped his game to another level.

Voracek has not been as world-famous as Sidney Crosby or as dominant as Wayne Gretzky, but he has been consistent. Throughout his 10-year career, he has amassed quality numbers in production. Voracek has played in 729 games and procured a respectable 541 points (163G – 378A). He has been a workhorse for whichever team he has been on, while missing only a handful of games so far in his career.

All-Star Sub

This year has been an incredible one for the NHL. Teams have risen from being “bottom-feeders” to dominance. Surprises have been shown in forwards, defenseman and goalies all across the league. Disappointments are also part of the unexpected season too as seen in Larry Matt’s article. When it comes to the All-Star game however, there are some serious snubs. The prestigious All-Star game has been a source of pride and competition for decades and the best of the best have partaken. This year seems to be a bit different.

Voracek is among several high-profile scorers and players who have been left off the roster. It has seemed to take on the form of a popularity display. Voracek leads the NHL in assists and is fifth in points and yet will not be participating in the events. It is a shame.
