Thomas Tuchel Leaves Borussia Dortmund after two years in charge

Dortmund, Germany – Thomas Tuchel leaves Borussia Dortmund after two years at the helm of the club. The news comes just days after bring the club their first trophy in five years.

“We’d like to thank Thomas Tuchel and his coaching team for their successful work at BVB, which culminated in the DFB Cup win over Eintracht Frankfurt in Berlin on Saturday,” read a club statement. “We’d like to wish Thomas all the best in his career.”

Tuchel took reins following the exit of Jurgen Klopp in the 2015 summer. He led the club to a second-place finish, the DFB Cup final and the UEFA Europa League quarterfinals that season.

The following season, BVB won the DFB Cup, reached the UEFA Champions League last eight and secured a third-place finish in the Bundesliga.

But the on-field success was overshadowed by a rift between Tuchel and the Dortmund leadership dating back to the 2015-16 season and the summer transfer window which followed.

His final game in charge of Dortmund was their 2-1 cup final win over Eintracht Frankfurt, giving the club their first trophy since 2012.

Despite previous links with Arsenal, various reports suggest a move to Bayer Leverkusen could be on the cards for the former Mainz boss next.

Dortmund will now begin the search for Tuchel’s successor. Nice manager Lucien Favre is the front-runner for the job.
