Barcelona: Iñigo Martinez Transfer From Real Sociedad Stalls

Barcelona, Spain – Barcelona interest in Iñigo Martinez transfer from Real Sociedad have cooled down. La Real’s asking price of 32 million euros has turned the Catalans off the transfer, despite having 222 million euros to spend after Neymar’s departure.

According to Ramiro Aldunate and Oscar Badallo of Marca, the asking price of 32 million euros for the center-back is believed to be too high for Barcelona.

“The player was willing to move to the Camp Nou and was thought to have agreed terms. However, the clubs have failed to reach an agreement that suits both parties, leading to Barcelona withdrawing from negotiations,” the report noted. “…Ernesto Valverde specifically requested Martinez’s arrival, but will now have to identify new targets.”

In addition, Francesc Aguilar of Mundo Deportivo claims that both Manchester City and Inter Milan recently had bids rejected for the 26-year-old.

Martinez has spent his entire career with Real Sociedad. He has played for Spain at U20, U21, and U23 level and made four appearances for the full national team. He’s also played in unofficial games for the Basque country.

Should Barcelona refuse to pay the clause, they will turn to Brazil from Palmeiras. Colombian player Yerri Mina, who’s buyout clause is 9 million euros. The Colombian is currently playing in the Copa Libertadores with Palmeiras.

However, Martinez dreams of playing for one of the elite teams. This is the reason why he asked that his release clause not be too high when negotiating his last deal.

Iñigo does not want to leave on the last day of the window through the back door. However, he may have to make a small push in order for his transfer to occur.
