Clasico Moved Due To Real Madrid Club World Cup

Madrid, Spain – The first Clasico of the season moved to Saturday, December 23. The match was originally due to be played on Wednesday, December 20. However, Real Madrid will play the Club World Cup in the United Arab Emirates during the previous weekend.

La Liga president, Javier Tebas confirmed the news to Onda Cero Radio on Sunday evening. Tebas was a guest on the program ‘El Transistor’.

“The first Barcelona-Madrid game in La Liga will be played on Saturday, December 23” he said.

There have been recent suggestions that an independent Catalonia could see Barcelona drop out of La Liga, something Tebas wouldn’t countenance.

“La Liga would be hurt if Barcelona didn’t play in it,” he said.

“But the Law of Sport is clear in the case of independence; Barcelona could not choose as only Spanish teams can play in La Liga.”

This will be the third meeting between the sides this season after Madrid’s 5-1 aggregate win in the Spanish Super Copa last month. The following match will be at the Camp Nou in a round 36 match currently scheduled for May 6, 2018.
