Real Madrid Fullback Dani Carvajal picks up hamstring injury

Madrid, Spain – Real Madrid fullback Dani Carvajal could potentially miss the rest of the season with a hamstring injury. He picked up the injury on Tuesday against Atletico Madrid in the first leg of the Champions League semifinal match.

Additionally, the club has confirmed in a medical report posted on Thursday.

“Following the test carried out today on our player Dani Carvajal by Real Madrid Sanitas medical team he has been diagnosed with a grade 2 hamstring in his right leg.”

According to several Spanish media outlets, the Spaniard will be out at least three to four weeks. In other words, the 25-year-old stud will miss the second leg against Atleti next Wednesday. Also, it is very unlikely he will play again in La Liga this season.

How did it happen? Who will step in?

Carvajal landed awkwardly after jumping for a challenge with Saul Niguez. Nacho Fernandez came in for the fullback at halftime.

Carvajal has been essential to Zinedine Zidane’s attack and defense in the last month. He has made 40 appearances and providing several key assists in big games, despite missing three weeks in January with another hamstring injury.

Although Danilo is the natural replacement for Carvajal, Zidane may opt for Nacho who has been sharp this season coming off the bench.

Needless to say, Cardiff final is exactly a month away, the same amount of time Dani needs to recover. That is, if Real Madrid can keep the 3-goal lead they have over Atletico. Such a comeback would mark a symbolic turnaround for the Spaniard who limped out of last year’s final in Milan, subsequently missing Euro 2016 through injury.
