Philippe Coutinho seals Barcelona move and will not debut for three weeks due to an injury

Barcelona, Spain – Philippe Coutinho seals Barcelona move from Liverpool. However, he will not be able to make his debut for three weeks due to an injury.

The 25-year-old Brazil international forward signed a five-and-a-half-year contract in a presentation at Camp Nou. The transfer fee was not confirmed publicly. However, it has been noted that it would reach £142 million (€160m, $192.7m). Liverpool will receive £105m (€120m, $142m) up front and the rest in performance-related add-ons.

Unfortunately for Barcelona fans, they will have to wait to see their new signing in action until Week 22.

In a statement, the club said: “Coutinho has an injury to his right thigh and he is expected to be out for around 3 weeks.”

Coutinho becomes the second most expensive footballer in history after his compatriot Neymar, who left Barça for Paris St-Germain last summer in a £200.6m (€226.9m, $241.7m) deal.

Coutinho will likely see action against Espanyol, a team he was on loan from Internazionale in 2012. He will miss four La Liga and Copa del Rey games.
