Quique Setien joins Real Betis after leaving Las Palmas

Seville, Spain – Quique Setien joins Real Betis on Friday for the next three seasons. Setien spent 18 months with Las Palmas, achieving at times remarkable stunts. Previously, he had stints at Racing Santander, Logrones, Lugo and the Equatorial Guinea national side.

Also, the 58-year-old is renowned for playing attacking football with a focus on ability and skill.

“Everyone knows who I am, how I see the game,” Setien told his unveiling press conference.

“You all know my philosophy of playing the game with the ball. Keeping possession and to forge close relationships with my players to help in this regard. It wont to take much for me to convince them regarding my proposal for playing the game, we want to grow gradually in one direction.

I make this promise to Beticos that this will be the case with our club, I guarantee attacking, possession-based football. I don’t want to make any promises in terms of achievements for next year but this is a big club who need to be ambitious. By signing a three-year deal here it gives security for the players, for me and for the club – it benefits everyone. I see Dani Ceballos as a ‘benchmark’ player, we can build a team around him, as for Antonio Adan and Ruben Castro – I want them both to play big roles here.

Furthermore, Setien fell out with Las Palmas president Miguel Angel Ramirez over the January signings of Jese Rodriguez and Alen Halilovic. Betis sacked Victor Sanchez del Amo on May 9. Additionally, in November the club sacked Gus Poyet.
