Peru’s captain Paolo Guerrero anti-doping test positive

Lima, Peru – Peru’s captain Paolo Guerrero tested positive in anti-doping test against Argentina last October. In addition, the Flamengo attacker’s agent denies all reports at the moment. However, the Peruvian Football Federation (FPF) is aware of the situation as reported by ESPN’s Andres Agulla.

In case of a suspension, Guerrero would miss Peru’s World Cup playoffs against New Zealand in November. Also, the most logical replacement for the 33-year-old will be Raul Ruidiaz.

There is talk that Guerrero tested positive of a “social drug”. Additionally, if the Flamengo striker does not satisfactorily pass the results of the counter test, he would face a two to four years suspension.

A thigh injury has kept Guerrero from playing during the last four games for the Rio de Janeiro club. He has also been in serious doubts to make it in time for the games against the Oceanic nation. Guerrero is a vital piece in the scheme of the Argentine coach Ricardo Gareca. The Peruvian converted six times during the World Cup qualifiers.

FIFA, CONMEBOL or FPF have yet to confirm or made an official announcement.
