Everton agree fee for Jordan Pickford

Liverpool, United Kingdom – Everton have agreed to pay Sunderland 30 million pounds for the services of young goalkeeper Jordan Pickford.

Should the move go ahead, the 23 year old will become the most expensive British goalkeeper in history.

Pickford made 29 league appearances for Sunderland last season. He also earned praise from his impressive campaign, despite the Black Cats’ relegation.

Currently, the goalkeeper is away with England under 21s ahead of the European Championships. The expectation is that he will complete his medical upon return to the country.

Throughout the summer, there was a heavy link between Pickford and the club, with goalkeepers Martin Stekelenburg and Joel Robles struggling to hold their places last season.

It is a sign of intent from manager Ronald Koeman, who will be looking to build on a relatively successful first campaign, finishing seventh, in charge of the toffees.

The 30 million pound fee looks likely to be met through add-ons, meaning Pickford would become the third most expensive goalkeeper of all time, behind Gianluigi Buffon and new Manchester City signing, Ederson

Becoming Everton’s main goalkeeper will improve Pickford’s chances of claiming the number one spot for England.

The youngster is currently behind Joe Hart, Jack Butland, Fraser Forster and Tom Heaton in the pecking order for England. However, with another quality campaign for a club that challenging for the Champions League places Gareth Southgate could potentially notice the youngster.

The news certainly won’t please Hart, who is looking for a permanent move away from Manchester City this summer.

The Englishman spent last season on loan at Torino, after falling out with Pep Guardiola at City.

Everton had been linked with the 30 year old. However, it is now clear Hart will not be at Goodison Park next season
