Manchester City Acquires Ederson from Benfica, ahead of a proposed five-year, €40 million transfer.

Manchester, England – Manchester City acquires Ederson from Benfica. A move that has been anticipated since the start of the week, although it was alleged that third-party ownership issues had been holding up the deal.

Also, the goalkeeper was in Manchester earlier this week for medical clearance.

On returning to Lisbon Wednesday evening, Ederson stated he was very happy and the first impressions were very good.

This arises after an underwhelming debut season from Pep Guardiola in England. Capping off a season for the first time in is managerial career without a single trophy to show for.

Furthermore, the goalkeeper position presented a major nuisance for Guardiola last season. Claudio Bravo struggled to solidify his transfer from Barcelona, by displaying poor form his first season at Man City. He did not assist Guardiola’s decision to replace him with Joe Hart. In addition to this, Bravo will likely juice up the bench while the young Benfica goalkeeper takes his place.

The move will be the second highest move by a goalkeeper at €40m. This just behind the world record fee €53.2m Juventus paid to Parma for Italy No.1 Gianluigi Buffon. Moreover, the 23-year-old Ederson, accompanied by recent signee Bernardo Silva from Monaco, will be marshalling a new look defense at the Etihad next season.
