Defender Pablo Zabaleta joins West Ham on free transfer

London, England – Pablo Zabaleta joins West Ham on free transfer at the end of his contract with Manchester City. Furthermore, Zabaleta leaves Manchester City after nine years, and is the club’s third-longest serving player after Joe Hart and Vincent Kompany.

Additionally, The club’s official website reported the deal had gone through, with the Zabaleta signing a two-year contract.

“Sometimes a new challenge is what you need as a person and a player. I hope I can give you good moments,” he said.

“I’m ready for it and looking forward to it. I wanted to keep playing in the Premier League. It is an absolute pleasure to be part of West Ham.”

The 32-year-old, who has been capped 58 times by Argentina, will compete with Sam Byram for the right-back berth at West Ham.

Zabaleta joined City from Espanyol in 2008 and went on to make over 300 appearances for the club, winning the Premier League on two occasions.

Also, West Ham confirmed on Thursday the departures of Alvaro Arbeloa, Jonathan Calleri and Gokhan Tore.
