Where Can Manchester United Strengthen?

Manchester, England- The Red Devil’s Manchester United delivered a hammer blow to their title rivals earlier this week. The arrival of Romelu Lukaku from Everton is a statement of intent from Jose Mourinho’s reds.

Despite the signing of Lukaku, United still aren’t readymade title challengers. They may be a player or two off that pace. As per right now, Manchester City are favorites for the title. They have been the smartest in the window. The signings they’ve made has saw them surpass their rivals by some ways. Bernardo Silva, making them stronger going forward. And now the most expensive defender of all time, Spurs right back Kyle Walker.

Where Do United Lack Quality?

For the most part the Man United starting 11 is a solid side, filled with talent and quality. But the loss of form and accumulation of age of some players means United must strengthen. But where?

Central Midfield/Winger

Micheal Carrick will soon retire for Manchester United which means the void his departure will leave needs to be filled up. But you can’t just replace Carrick with any player. Carrick sets a certain pace in the United team, with his forward passing and positive overall play. The player United bring in will need to play in a similar style to Carrick. The player that I see in modern football today that emulates Carrick most is Toni Kroos. A crafty player, who is not the quickest but will find a pass from anywhere. Unfortunately for United signing him is unrealistic, but which players are?

Nemanja Matic

The giant in midfield. Matic would be a coup for United. The Serb in beside Herrera would frighten opposition midfields. Matic is strong in possession, has a brilliant range of passing and a deft eye for goal. United’s chances of signing Matic may have been scuppered when they stole Lukaku from right under Chelsea’s noses. But never say never in the transfer window.

Radja Nainggolan

One of the most highly rated centre mids in the world right now. The Belgian with the perfect haircut is exactly what United need.  A strong creative midfielder, with a Scholesesque range of passing and a right foot like Conor McGregor’s left hand, dangerous. The Roma man wouldn’t come cheap, but United have been said to be in for the midfielder. Only time will tell.

Ivan Perisic

The Croat may be the answer to Anthony Martial’s inconsistency. The Inter winger as been linked with Manchester United throughout the window. The signing of Perisic would bring the pace power and flare they are missing from out of form Martial. Perisic and Mhykitaryan on either wing will be hell for Premier League defences. The price tag is €48 million for Perisic.

United must sign one of these three.

Failure to do so may result in another leagueless season. The midfield void Paul Scholes left after retiring has only recently been filled up by his namesake Paul Pogba. But replacement is inevitable, and United have to repeat the process all over again for Micheal Carrick.
