Ronaldo’s 600th Career Goal Wins Number 12

Cristiano Ronaldo celebrates the duodecima

Champions League

A Cristiano Ronaldo brace helped Real Madrid to a 4-1 win over Juventus in the Champions League final tonight.

There was a lot of build up and talk about how strong the defense of Juventus was prior to tonight, but on the night it all meant nothing. Goals from Ronaldo (2), Casemiro and Asensio pushed Madrid towards their 12th Champions League crown. The Spanish club created history in doing so, becoming the first club to ever win back to back Champions League titles.

Both teams played the game at a fast pace from start to finish. Ronaldo opened the scoring in the 20th minute, finishing off a well worked move from a Carvajal cross. Mandzukic leveled seven minutes later, with cup final goal to remember. The Croatian took the ball on his chest and over headed and lobbed Keylor Navas in the Madrid net.

This was truly a game of two halves. Juve enjoyed a lot of possession in the first and had some great chances, Madrid showed their class in the second. Casemiro put Madrid ahead in the 61st minute when his 30 yard drive deflected in off ex Madrid man Sami Khedira. Ronaldo added to the misery for Juve three minutes later, becoming the top goal scorer for the Champions League campaign in the process (12). The Madrid wonderkid Asensio added a 4th late on after Juan Cuadrado had been sent off for stamping on Sergio Ramos.

The hardest part of the game was seeing Gianluigi Buffon’s disheartened face at the end of the game. The Champions League is the only trophy eluding him in his illustrious career. And now more then ever it looks like it will elude him forever more.

Madrid made history tonight, league and Champions League winners, the future looks bright under Zinedine Zidane.
