Roma sign Hector Moreno from PSV

Rome, Italy – Roma sign Hector Moreno from Dutch club PSV Eindhoven. The Mexico international becomes Roma and newly hired Sporting Director Monchi’s first move. Additionally, the center-back cost Roma 5.7 million euros and the signing is for a four-year-contract.

“I am very happy to sign for Roma,” Moreno said. “This represents an important step up in my career.

“I hope I can show my individual qualities and contribute to the overall success of the team.”

Moreno joined PSV in 2015 from La Liga side Espanyol after 100 appearances for the club. While with PSV, Moreno made a total of 32 league appearances, scoring seven goals. The Dutch club finished third this season but won the 2015-2016 league.

“Moreno has been a target of mine for a long time, and fortunately now the circumstances are right for him to join us at Roma,” said Monchi. “This is a central defender with a lot of international experience, and he perfectly fit the profile we were looking for.”

The 29-year-old has 79 caps for Mexico, representing his country in 2010 and 2014 World Cups. He was part of the team that won the CONCACAF Gold Cup in 2015.

He is currently with the national team ahead of this summer’s Confederations Cup, which gets underway on Saturday, with Mexico one of eight countries competing in Russia.
