2016 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Preview

Just less than 24 hours until the Daytona 500, several storylines and questions remain. Here’s the 2016 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series preview.

Rookie Class of 2016: This season boasts a stout Rookie of the Year class. In fact, it was displayed Sunday in qualifying when Chase Elliott took the Daytona 500 pole. Other full time candidates include Ryan Blaney, Chris Buescher, Brian Scott, and Jeffrey Earnhardt joining part time.

Will Toyota Set The Bar Higher?: After a mid-season engine program upgrade, Toyota was unstoppable with several wins down the stretch. The manufacture won it’s first drivers championship with Kyle Busch, and they now hunt their first Daytona 500 win. Toyota is looking for a even stronger 2016.

Will Tony Stewart Return Stronger?: After suffering a back injury in a offseason Buggy crash, Stewart remains sidelined despite already in rehab and with no timetable for return. Fans should pay attention when he comes back as he could snatch a few wins in his final season. In the meantime, Brian Vickers will run the Daytona 500, while Ty Dillon is expected to drive for a few races.

Surprise Sleepers and Winners: Several drivers have a chance of being a sleeper who sneaks their way to a win or even the Chase if winless. These names include Austin Dillon, Casey Mears, Chase Elliott, Paul Menard, Kyle Larson, or Ricky Stenhouse Jr.

Who will be the Final 4 at Homestead?: 36 can be a long  and winding road, and it time can be unpredictable. However, my prediction will be Kyle Busch, Denny Hamlin, Jimmie Johnson, and Joey Logano.

The Daytona 500 starts Sunday at 1:30pm on FOX.
