AAA Texas 500 At TMS Preview

This weekend, NASCAR’s finest head to Texas Motor Speedway for the AAA Texas 500. This is the 34th race of the 2016 NASCAR Sprint Cup season and the 8th race in the Chase For The Sprint Cup. In last years running, Jimmie Johnson spoiled the Chase picture with a win over Brad Keselowski.

#SE7EN Or Bust: After last week’s win at Martinsville, Jimmie Johnson looks to not only defend his AA Texas 500 win from last year, but affirm himself as a top contender at Homestead. In fact, history backs Johnson at Texas. He has won five of the past eight races at TMS, including the last four fall races.

Out, But Never Done: Last year proved that being eliminated from the Chase didn’t mean missing out on winning. In fact, 2 of the three races in the Round Of 8 were won by drivers previously eliminated (Jimmie Johnson: Texas 2015; Dale Earnhardt Jr.: Phoenix 2015). Watch out a few who could set that trend again, including Martin Truex Jr. and Brad Keselowski.

Harvick Seeking First Win At Texas: A 35-time NASCAR Sprint Cup Series winner, Kevin Harvick has visited Victory Lane at every active track except for Sonoma, Kentucky, Pocono and Texas, the site of Sunday’s AAA Texas 500. But, he’s has proven good as of recent at the track with a 11.80 finishing average with 3 top 5’s. So, the odds are looking good to break through at TMS this weekend.

Chase Tripleheader: This weekend at Texas will also feature the Camping World Truck Series (Friday Night) and the XFINITY Series (Saturday) along with the Sprint Cup Series. Both are locked into a heated championship battle as well with their Chase formats in the process of narrowing down to it’s final 4 in the next 2 races.
