A.J. Puk selected 6th overall by A’s in 2016 MLB draft

AJ Puk selected 6th overall by the A’s, out of the University of Florida this pitcher is sure to help the A’s soon.

At number 4 on the prospect list for the 2016 draft,  A.J. Puk has been awaiting this day his whole life. You hear the term that a kid is built for this, well that couldn’t be more true than it is for Puk.

This 6’7″ Left-Hander stood out as someone special long before he ever threw his first pitch for the University of Florida.  He has credited Perfect Game USA of Cedar Rapids, Iowa with helping him develop as a player. He was drafted out of high scool in the 2013 draft in the 35th round by the Detroit Tigers, but chose to go to college and play for the Florida Gators.

Puk is a Hard thrower with a nasty slider, and scouts have him rated at a 55/65 Grade vs potential rating.  Scouts have questioned his durability but never his ability to work quickly through the Minor Leagues and make his way to a Major league team’s rotation.

Some of Puk’s Strengths are:

*96-97 MPH Fastball

*3 Plus pitches

*High baseball IQ

*Nasty Slider

*Randy Johnson like presence on the mound.

Some of Puk’s weaknesses:

*Needs to improve his command

*May be injury prone

A.J. Puk has continued to show improvement in many areas of his pitching and with the help of a major league system he should be able to build on the success he already has.  Like many other players in the draft A.J. Puk has a high potential for success and a high baseball IQ to go along with his physical abilities, and the Phillies were willing to take him at number one with hopes of building a young strong rotation.
