Alex Gordon Signs Four Year Deal With Royals

Another big free agent is now off the market, as Alex Gordon has agreed to a four-year, $72 million deal to return to the Kansas City Royals. The contract will also include an option for 2020. The team made the announcement Wednesday, confirming earlier reports.

Gordon declined his 2016 player option last November, worth $13.75 million with postseason escalators included, to test free agency for the first time before his age-32 season. Multiple teams had been linked to Gordon in some form this offseason, but he chose to stay with the Royals.

Alex Gordon was a key part in ending Kansas City’s 30 year World Series Championship drought last season. Gordon played in only 109 games last season due to injuries, batting .271 with 13 homers and 48 RBIs. He is a .269 hitter with a .783 OPS in nine seasons, all with the Royals.
