Alexis Sanchez left Chile training early this afternoon to undergo medical exams for a suspected torn calf muscle

Santiago, Chile – Arsenal star Alexis Sanchez left Chile training on Tuesday to undergo an examination on a suspected torn calf muscle, the national team has announced.

The 27-year-old has been discarded for the match against Colombia on November 10 in Barranquilla for the World Cup qualifiers.

“The player will remain in Santiago for further evaluations and treatment for Chile’s next game against Uruguay at home on November 15,” said the statement.

He played the full 90 minutes on Sunday as Arsenal were held to a 1-1 draw with Spurs.

And the possible absence of Sanchez will be a huge blow to Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger.

Sanchez has had an excellent start to the season, spearheading the attack with eight goals and seven assists.

Chile had recently been awarded three points at the misfortune of Bolivia’s expense for fielding an ineligible player on the field. This action placed them on the fifth position of the qualifications and playing the playoffs would they start today. With only a few matches left between now and May of next year, Chile could end up outside of the World Cup should Sanchez’ injury extend.
