American League Roster For The 87th All-star Game

The American League roster for the All-star game differs because of the DH. David Ortiz gets the nod for the position that has defined him as a player his whole career. This is Ortiz’s last year but he is not showing any signs of slowing down. He has posted an OPS of over 1.000 so far this season. Aside from the DH, the AL is also carrying more relief pitchers than the NL. Relief pitchers seem to be more suited for an All-star game as each pitcher will likely only work one or two innings. Here is a look at the American League All-stars.

DH – David Ortiz (Boston Red Sox)
First Base – Eric Hosmer (Kansas City Royals)
Second Base – Jose Altuve (Houston Astros)
Third Base – Manny Machado (Baltimore Orioles)
Catcher – Salvador Perez (Kansas City Royals)
Shortstop – Xander Bogaerts (Boston Red Sox)
Outfielders – Mike Trout (Los Angeles Angels), Jackie Bradley Jr (Boston Red Sox). and Mookie Betts (Boston Red Sox)

Starting Pitchers – Chris Sale (Chicago White Sox), Cole Hamels (Texas Rangers), Marco Estrada (Toronto Blue Jays) , Danny Salazar (Cleveland Indians) and Steven Wright (Boston Red Sox)
Relief Pitchers – Craig Kimbrel (Boston Red Sox), Zach Britton (Baltimore Orioles), Andrew Miller (New York Yankees), Wade Davis (Kansas City Royals), Dellin Bentances (New York Yankees), Brad Brach (Baltimore Orioles), Alex Colome (Tampa Bay Rays), Kelvin Herrera (Kansas City Royals) and Will Harris (Houston Astros)

Miguel Cabrera (Detroit Tigers), Josh Donaldson (Toronto Blue Jays), Mark Trumbo (Baltimore Oriols), Edwin Encarnacion (Toronto Blue Jays), Robinson Cano (Seattle Mariners), Matt Wieters (Baltimore Orioles), Stephen Vogt (Oakland Athletics), Francisco Lindor (Cleveland Indians), Eduardo Nunez (Minnesota Twins) ,Carlos Beltran (New York Yankees) and Ian Desmond (Texas Rangers)

The AL squad is stacked with power arms out of the bullpen. With players like Andrew Miller and Craig Kimbrel, it will be tough for the NL to score runs. Ned Yost will have fun mixing and matching power bullpen arms to silence the NL bats. With a powerful NL lineup and great pitching for the AL, it will be interesting to see which side prevails. The 87th MLB All-star game is July 12th.
