Colts owner Jim Irsay has been hinting that his starting Quarterback Andrew Luck would be ‘cashing out’ shortly. On Wednesday, June 29th, 2016 the deal Luck signed was indeed “shocking” as Irsay declared it would be.

The contract Luck signed makes him the highest paid NFL player. This six year blockbuster deal is worth $140 million, including $87 million guaranteed.

Sources claim Luck will generate roughly 24.6 million every season for the next three years.

Luck, a Stanford University graduate, was the first overall selection in the 2012 NFL Draft and has been a significant benefit to a depleted Colts team after Peyton Manning’s departure.

In just a few years as an NFL Quarterback, Luck has passed for 14,838 yards and 101 touchdowns while joining the elite company of Peyton Manning and Drew Brees as a quarterback to throw for 3,000 yards in the first nine games of a season.

The 2015 season was absolutely dismal for Luck and the Colts, going 8-8 and just missing out on the playoffs.

Throughout the 2015 season, Luck had to deal with several injuries including a lacerated kidney and a shoulder issue.

But 2015 was the only year the Colts missed qualifying for the playoffs with Luck as the quarterback.

Luck is ready for a turnaround, in a statement he said:

“I am thankful to the Irsay family and Mr. Irsay for providing me with this great opportunity and the trust that they’ve shown in me. I can’t wait for this season to start.”

Owner Jim Irsay obviously wanted to make a statement with this contract, and he did. Making Luck the highest-paid NFL player proves that he is trusted and reliable in Indianapolis.

Hopefully, this monster of a contract proves to be a wise choice. Now the question is, what will Luck do with all that money?
