Gian Gasperini becomes Atalanta’s new manager

Bergamo, Italy – Atalanta have appointed former Genoa coach Gian Gasperini to replace Edoardo Reja, the Serie A club announced, ahead of the 2016-17 campaign.

The move had been speculated for some time now, though Gasperini only reached an agreement with the Grifone for the mutual termination of his contract on Tuesday morning.

The announcement was made on La Dea’s official website on Tuesday afternoon.

“The club would like to thank the coach and staff for their work and wishes the best professional fortunes for the continuation of their business,” Genoa said in a statement.

“Atalanta BC announces that it has entrusted the technical management of the first team to Mr. Gian Piero Gasperini. A football man, a master of football,” said Atalanta.

Gasperini, 58, has been in charge of Inter Milan, Palermo and Genoa — whom he led to promotion in 2007 and then to 11th place in Serie A last season during his second spell.

Atalanta described Gasperini as “The man of football, the master of football” on their website, with Reja leaving the club on Monday.

Atalanta finished 13th in the Serie A standings with 45 minutes, winning 11 games, drawing 12 and losing 15.
