Atletico Madrid’s new stadium has revealed that its new stadium has been named Wanda Metropolitano

Madrid, Spain – Atletico Madrid president Enrique Cerezo announced on Friday the agreement with Dalian Wanda Group, a Chinese investor group, to name the new stadium Wanda Metropolitano.

Cerezo also said that more than 30,000 members have taken their seats in the new stadium. The Chinese investor group leads various interests around the world focusing on real estate, luxury hotels, shops and cultural events.

Starting on the 2017-18 season, the stadium that is situated in the Madrid district of San Blas-Canillejas, with capacity for approximately 67,000 fans, will substitute the historic Vicente Calderon. The Vicente Calderon was inaugurated in 1966 and at its time it revealed the old Metropolitano Stadium.

Atletico Madrid have also decided to redesign their club’s badge in its attempt to remember its history and aiming at the future.

It is still unclear which will be the first match to inaugurate the new Wanda Metropolitan stadium.
