Atletico Madrid Signs Sime Vrsaljko

Madrid, Spain – Atletico Madrid have signed Croatian right-back Sime Vrsaljko from Serie A club Sassuolo, the club announced.

Vrsaljko has spent last two seasons with Italian side Sassuolo, and played a part in the team reaching their first ever Europa League qualification after finishing 6th in Serie A courtesy of a Juventus Coppa Italia win over Milan as Milan would have gone to Europe instead if they had won the final. Previous to Sassuolo, he spent a year in Genoa and four with Dynamo Zagreb in Croatia where he won four league titles.

“Vrsaljko is a player with a huge projection, although he has already demonstrated his quality in a championship as competitive as the Italian Serie A,” said Jose Luis Pérez Caminero, Sporting Manager.

“It perfectly fulfils our idea of incorporating players who increase the competition within the group and our team’s level. He is very versatile, since he can play in both sides, which offers us interesting alternatives.”

The 24 year-old footballer, who has played the EURO in France with his national team, is currently on holiday and will join the team in July.
