Axel Witsel has left FC Zenit for Tianhin Quanjian

St. Petersburg, Russia – Belgium star Axel Witsel has agreed a move to Tianjin Quanjian where he is set to net a stonking salary of 18 million Euros a year, the club has confirmed.

The Belgium international midfielder had just six months left on his contract in St Petersburg.

He had originally agreed to join Juventus, either for a minimal fee this month or as a free agent at the end of the season.

“It was a very difficult decision because on one hand there was a great team and a top club like Juventus,” Witsel said earlier this week.

“But on the other there was a crucial offer for my family that I couldn’t turn down. The leadership at Juventus have always behaved like gentlemen with me and I can only be grateful to them.

“I will cheer for Juventus and I hope they can win the Champions League. Then who knows, maybe one day in the future our paths will finally meet.”
