Baltimore Orioles Hit MLB Record 56 homeruns in June

Coming into the 2016 season, many people did not have high hopes for the Baltimore Orioles. Their starting pitching was not good and some questioned whether the offense could keep up.

As June comes to a close, the Orioles have proved their critics wrong. They hold a 5 game lead over the Boston Red Sox in the AL Central. Just for good measure though they figured they would break a record just to make sure people gave them credit.

In the month of June, the Orioles smashed 56 homeruns. That is nine more than any other team in the majors for that month and the most ever hit in the month of June. Along with it being the most in June, it is also the 3rd-most hit in any month in MLB history.

The majority of the homeruns hit where absolute bombs. Jonathan Schoop hit 461-foot monster that was closely followed by Pedro Alvarez’s 458-foot bomb.

As a team, the Orioles hit 5 homers that traveled over 450-feet. That is tied for the most in a month since 2009. All 56 homeruns combined to travel 22,341 feet or an average of 398 feet per homerun.

In the month of July, the Orioles will look to keep their hot hitting going. They will need it if they hope of fight off the Red Sox and take the AL Central.
