Neymar Extends Contract Until 2021

Barcelona, Spain – Barcelona and Brazilian striker Neymar Jr. have agreed on a new contract extension which will keep him with the club for the next five seasons, the club announced.

The new extension, set to end June 30, 2021, gives Neymar a substantial wage increase, but the bigger news is the staggering increase in the release clause.

In the first year of the new deal, it will be 200 million euros; in the second year it will be 222 million euros; and from the third year forward, it will rise to 250 million euros (2018-2021).

Neymar will return to Barcelona on July 15 to complete the renewal at an official event alongside Barça president Josep Maria Bartomeu.

After that, the 24-year-old will join up with the Brazil squad for the Olympic Games, which are taking place in Rio de Janeiro in August.

Neymar has played in 141 games for the club while scoring 85 goals. In three seasons, he has won eight trophies, two league titles, two Copa del Rey, one European Super Cup, one Spanish Super Cup and the Club World Cup.

Manchester United, Real Madrid and Paris St-Germain were linked with the Brazil forward in countless occasions. However, president Bartomeu kept insisting that the club would renew the player rather soon.
