Barcelona seeks to Sevilla to revamp their midfield, N’Zonzi could cost 40 million euros

Madrid, Spain – La Liga champion Barcelona seeks to Sevilla to revamp their midfield with Steven N’Zonzi. In light of having perhaps the weakest midfield in recent memory, the Blaugranas are in search or a suitable Xavi Hernandez replacement. Of course, something that Andre Gomes, Denis Suarez, Rafinha, Arda Turan nor Ivan Rakitic have.

Despite having real interests in Real Madrid’s midfielder Isco, the Malagueño will be staying in the capital next season. And, Robert Fernandez, sporting director, has found the answer in Sevilla man Steven N’Zonzi. However, the signing will come with a heavy cost, 40 million euros Sevilla is asking for the midfielder.

The Catalan club has been on the losing end of many games this season due to the poor performance from the midfield position. With Javier Mascherano no longer playing his habitual position, an aging Andres Iniesta and Rakitic, Barcelona must address this situation.

Who is N’Zonzi?

N’Zonzi is a 28-year-old French soccer player playing for the Andalusian club Sevilla. N’Zonzi began his career at Ligue 2 side Amiens in 2007 and went on to play for several academies including Paris Saint-Germain. In 2009, Premier League club Blackburn Rovers signed the midfielder for £500,000 on a four-year contract. He was later signed by Stoke City in a £3million deal.

In 2015 he joined La Liga side Sevilla for almost £8m. He won the Europa League in his first season at the club – beating Liverpool in the final – as Sevilla finished seventh domestically.

Physically, N’Zonzi is indomitable, winning aerial battles and shrugging opponents off the ball. However, it’s his work in possession that has kicked on in Spain, with the midfielder adept at managing the pace of a game from a deeper position.

Since moving to Andalusia in 2015, N’Zonzi has netted seven goals in 80 appearances for the Spanish side.

Who else wants the 28-year-old?

Premier League sides Chelsea, Manchester City, Arsenal and Everton have heavy interest in N’Zonzi. In addition, Juventus was heavily linked with the Frenchman in January. The Bianconeri, however, opted to bring in Genoa’s Tomas Rincon. The Daily Mirror, however, suggests that Chelsea and Manchester City lead the race for the highly-rated midfielder.

Furthermore, Barcelona would be willing to enter Gomes and Suarez in any deal made for the midfielder. The Catalan club has always had a great relationship with the Andalusian club. Dani Alves, Keita, Adriano and Rakitic have all joined from Sevilla in the last 10 years.
