Bass Pro Shops NRA Night Race At Bristol Preview

This weekend, NASCAR’s finest head to Bristol Motor Speedway for the Bass Pro Shops NRA Night Race. This is the 23nd race of the 2016 NASCAR Sprint Cup season. In last year’s race, Joey Logano won his third race of the season, beating out Kevin Harvick in the process.

Night Race Trifecta In Sight: Joey Logano will attempt to win at Bristol for the third straight August in Saturday’s Bass Pro Shops NRA Night Race. In his prior two wins, Logano has led the second most laps (McMurray with 178 in 2014, and Kyle Busch with 192 last year). You have to go back to 1981-83 with Darrell Waltrip for the last time someone won a Bristol race 3 straight years, so Logano will be looking to rewrite the history books.

Concrete Carl Goes For the Bristol Sweep: Another driver looking to join the history books is Carl Edwards. Edwards will try to earn the first sweep of the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series season in Saturday’s race at Bristol Motor Speedway after winning the spring race.

Temper, Temper: Bristol will be a battleground for not only guys seeking for a win, but for new rivalries to sprout up. With a track known for frustration throughout the years, the battle for being the top dog in the sport can take detours into the NASCAR Hauler. Expect some beating, banging, and some hotheads Saturday night.

Chase Hopes A Ticking: The regular season for the Sprint Cup Series is down to four, and the drama to make the Chase increases with the bubble teams arriving at Bristol this weekend. Larson’s Chase hopes were damaged at Watkins Glen when a last-lap wreck with AJ Allmendinger while running in the top five landed him a 29th-place finish. While Chase Elliott’s recent struggles puts his once guaranteed points birth in danger. Finally, don’t forget that Chris Buescher is still outside the top 30 with a win entering this weekend.
