Cunningham Inks One-Year Contract

Former Rams running back Benny Cunningham has signed a one-year contract with the Chicago Bears Tuesday evening. Cunningham has worked primarily as a backup option. This is a role he is likely to continue in Chicago with Jordan Howard set as their starter.

Over the course of his four seasons with the Rams, Cunningham has appeared in 57 games with three starts. He has accumulated 171 rushes for 748 yards and four touchdowns averaging 4.4 yards-per-carry. His 93 catches for 752 yards and one touchdown give him an average of 8.1 yards-per-reception. Last season, the speedy 5′ 10″, 210-pounder ranked third in the league with a 27.2-yard average on 22 kickoff returns.

Cunningham was signed by the Rams as an undrafted free agent out of Middle Tennessee State in 2013.

Changes to Offense and the Bears’ Backfield

The Bears have been making major changes during free agency. Most notably, they released QB Jay Cutler and signed former Buccaneers QB Mike Glennon. WR Alshon Jeffery also left the Windy City for his new home in Philadelphia as three new receivers and a tight end signed with the Bears.

Their latest addition, Cunningham, will join Jordan Howard, Ka’Deem Carey, Bralon Addison, Jeremy Langford, and David Cobb in the backfield. They will have their elder statesman in Cunningham.
