St. Louis Blues: 4   Dallas Stars: 3

After dropping game 1 of their second round series to the Dallas Stars 2-1, the St. Louis Blues looked to even up the series in game 2. They did just that, defeating the Stars 4-3 in overtime. The Blues received goals from Patrick Berglund, Joel Edmundson, Troy Brouwer, and David Backes, while Alex Goligoski, Mattias Janmark and Jamie Benn lit the lamp for the Stars. Brain Elliott stopped 31 of the Stars 34 shots, while Kari Lehtonen gave up 3 goals on 5 shots before being replaced by backup goaltender Antti Niemi, who stopped 19 of the 20 shots he faced.

The Stars would take an early lead, when Goligoski put a slap shot past Elliott to give them a 1 goal lead. Benn received the puck behind the net and tossed it to Goligoski, who shot the puck into the net. But the Blues would tie the game under a minute later. While entering the zone, Berglund gave the puck to Robby Fabbri, who put the puck right back on Berglund’s stick before he fired the puck past Lehtonen, tying the game at 1. The Blues would take the lead minutes later, when Edmundson tipped in a pass from Brouwer, giving them a 2-1 lead. While on the power play, Brouwer scored off the rebound of slap shot from Kevin Shattenkirk, giving the Blues a 3-1 lead. The Stars would pull Lehtonen after the second period, replacing him with Niemi.

After a scoreless 2nd period, Janmark put the Stars within 1 goal, putting the puck past Elliot on a breakaway. With just over 2 minutes remaining in the game, Benn would grab the rebound off of a shot by Cody Eakin and put the puck past Elliott tying the game at 3 and forcing overtime. In overtime, Stars forward Antoine Roussel took an interference penalty, leading to a Blues power play. Alexander Steen took a slap shot that Niemi saved, but he gave up a rebound that found the stick of Backes, who shot the puck into the net, clinching the game 2 victory, and tying the series at 1 game a piece.
